The Secret to Glowing Skin this Summer

Summer is well underway and the weather is HOT. We’ve had an influx of clients coming in with complaints about being overly oily, skin irritation, sunburns, and more. Everyone is asking us how they can achieve and maintain glowing skin in the hotter months. Barrier support is the main focus on 2025, so let’s talk about tips and tricks for keeping your skin healthy in this sweaty, hot, muggy time of year.

Tip 1: For glowing skin, apply and reapply SPF EVERYDAY!

Sunscreen is sincerely the most important step in your skincare regimen. I’m begging you, please wear your SPF!!! It prevents most of the skin concerns that people come get facials to fix. There is so much awful misinformation being spread about the safety of sunscreen. It does not cause cancer- it prevents cancer. It’s not poisoning your body- it’s protecting your body’s largest organ. Please don’t listen to these random people on the internet who have no business discussing the safety of sunscreen. There are many different formulas and types of sunscreen so you can find the perfect one. Don’t give up on sunscreen just because you haven’t loved one yet. Come see us and we’ll help you find something that works for you. In the meantime, don’t believe everything someone says just because they’re wearing a white coat.

Tip 2: Stay hydrated internally and externally

You always hear that drinking enough water is important, and it is, but it’s not the only way to keep your skin hydrated. Did you know that our skin is the last organ to receive the water we intake? This is why you’ll notice your skin begins to glow with the more water you drink. This isn’t the only way to hydrate your skin though! Using a hydrator like Hydrabalance Gel or Hydraremedy Gel from Face Reality will ensure that your skin is getting water while also balancing your skin. Another great option would be to include a hydrating mist like the Glymed CBD Skin Mist or Recovery Skin Mist. Both are easy to reapply throughout the day.

Tip 3: Wear a hat and sunglasses

While wearing sunscreen is excellent protection, I always recommend wearing a hat and sunglasses when you go outside. This will give your further protection to ensure that your skin is safe, healthy, and unharmed by UV rays. I want to clarify that I’m not telling you to avoid the sun. The sun is an essential element of our survival, but we must be smart with our sun exposure. If you’re noticing more little brown spots coming up or seeing tightness and wrinkling on any part of the body that’s not caused by age, it’s time to get covered up when you go out.

Tip 4: Pick the correct moisturizer for your skin

With summer coming into full swing, it’s time to change up your skincare routine. Many people tend to opt for a lighter moisturizer, maybe a mattifying SPF, or even change up their cream cleanser for a foaming cleanser. These are great swaps to make but I want to reiterate the importance of having a great moisturizer for your skin. All skin needs a moisturizer, yes, even those of you with super oily skin. Tip 6: Focus on stress relief

Stress has a massive impact on our skin. High stress levels can lead to an increase in inflammation. In turn, you may see an increase in sensitivity, irritation, and/or flaking of the skin. Practice self care as frequently as you can. No matter if you’re taking a few minutes when you wake up to stretch and take deep breaths, if you’re going to the gym or making a nutritious breakfast, or just taking some time to read or journal, every little thing helps. As a mom of a toddler, I understand the crunch for time, but I still do my best to give my body a nice stress when I wake up. This always helps me get my head in a good space to start the day. Lower stress = happier skin!

So what’s the secret to glowing skin?

I’ve shared some of my biggest tips but here’s the biggest secret: if you want glowing skin, you need to be consistently taking care of it. I know that doesn’t sound like a secret, but so many people struggle with consistency in their skincare routine. It’s not a one and done treatment. Your skin needs continued care to maintain its health. If your doctor told you that you needed to take a new heart medication, you would probably do it, right? And I’m guessing you’d probably prioritize taking it every day to keep your heart healthy. I know it may sound wild to compare your skin’s health to your heart’s health, but your skin is your largest organ. It’s the first line of defense in your immune system. When your skin is compromised, your immune system is compromised.
